Every bespoke bag begins with a conversation. 
Sometimes you already know exactly what you are looking for. Sometimes it starts with nothing more than a feeling, a favourite colour, or an inspiring example. 
Together we explore shape, proportions, materials and details until the design feels naturally yours.

Materials and craftsmanship

Every material influences the character of a bag.

Leather, suede, lining, hardware and finishing are selected with equal care. Comfort, balance and practical use are considered just as important as appearance.

Every bag is handcrafted in the Cato Utrecht atelier.

The design process

1. Getting acquainted

We discuss your wishes, intended use and personal style.

Whether you visit the atelier in Utrecht or prefer an online meeting, the process begins in exactly the same way.

For international clients we can send leather and colour samples.

2. Design proposal

Once the concept has taken shape, you receive a personal quotation together with an estimated delivery time.

3. Crafting your bag

Throughout the making process there is room for refinement.

Small adjustments can be discussed online using photographs, video calls and material samples.

4. Delivery

Your finished bag can be collected from the atelier or shipped worldwide using insured delivery.

Can I visit your studio?

Yes. My studio is located in Utrecht and visits are by appointment. You’ll be able to see and compare leathers, colours and hardware, making it easier to choose the details for your bag.

Can I commission a bespoke bag if I don’t live in the Netherlands?

Absolutely. The entire design process can take place remotely. We discuss your ideas via video call, after which I send leather and colour samples by post. Your finished bag is shipped fully insured.

How long does the process take?

Each bespoke bag is made to order. Delivery time depends on the complexity of the design and my current schedule. I’ll provide an estimated timeline when I prepare your quotation.

Can I choose the leather remotely?

Yes. It works surprisingly well. After our video consultation, I’ll send you a selection of leather samples in the colours we’ve discussed. That way, you can see and feel the leather at home before deciding.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. I ship worldwide. Shipping costs depend on the destination and are quoted before you place your order.
